Introduction

I participate in different music-making groups. A current project is organising a group of friends to play in a small brass ensemble. Our group isn’t quite a typical configuration of instruments so this has led to some arranging, re-arranging, and transposing of existing pieces.

Michel Rondeau is a Canadian composer and arranger who has made many arrangements available under a Creative Commons licence.

A Lute Lullaby by John Dowland

Arranged by Michel Rondeau for two trumpets and two trombones (IMSLP link). Rondeau publishes his under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence. This adaptation, which transposes two trumpets from C to B♭ and transposes one trombone to horn, is made under the same licence.

Beethoven Canons

Michel Rondeau arranged five canons by Beethoven for two to four trumpets. Since I have a mix of trumpets and other instruments I am transposing some of these to be for trumpets with horn and/or trombone. These versions will go here.

Transpositions

The following are simple transpositions of Michel Rondeau’s arrangements. For canons with two trumpet parts, the second is assigned to both horn and trombone in harmony. (This is why something arranged by Rondeau as a duet appears to have three parts below.) For canons with three parts, the first trumpet is assigned to the trumpet, second trumpet to the horn, and third trumpet to the trombone. For quartets, the first and second trumpets are left as-is, with the third trumpet given to the horn and the fourth trumpet to the trombone.
